Another peaceful election is in the books for one of the greatest nations on Earth. The question is no longer what Republicans or Democrats will do. The question is now what will Americans do?
In the next four years, we have the freedom and the opportunity to:
- Stop name calling, listen to differing opinions and allow compromise.
- Produce wealth in spite of obstacles, and give to neighbors in need.
- Show the world our best, not our worst.
Who is in power now? You are.
As someone very smart said today, “In a nation of children, Santa Claus will always win.” And when so few have a stake in paying for the presents, we who produce that wealth all lose.
Sorry to throw cold water on your obvious and ever-present optimism, David. It’s one of your best traits, but one I’m afraid I obviously don’t share.
I am convinced we’ve seen the last of our best. Our worst is coming. Better to be ready for it.
It’s time to stop fooling ourselves about who we’ve become.
Those with principles have “compromised” them away.
Our neighbors are not waiting for us to give to them, they’re banding together in “voting blocks” to confiscate from the producers what they produce, and they don’t want to help themselves anymore. Why should they?
The “takers” are now in charge, and from now on, they will be, until there’s nothing left to take.
Very well put, and something for all to seriously consider. I’m trying to focus on my own attitude and ability to make a difference… the 2 things no one can take away from me.
Thank you, David! Imagine if everyone could recognize your point instead of bemoaning the state of affairs. We can make a difference – each and everyone of us. In one of the races in Alameda County, only 22 votes separated the winner from the loser.
Some of us could have made a difference yesterday, but too many chose not to. Beleive me, Terry, I recognize David’s point as well as you do.
But failing to recognize reality, as well, is simply not an option for me. That’s a huge part of how we got to where we are now.
Dave,
I so agree with you. It is all about the compromise. Everyone gets a little something and loses a little something. And name calling, it is for bullies.
