Whether a wall is built to keep someone in or keep someone out, it is absolutely built to keep people apart. And the longer the wall stands, the easier it is to forget who’s on the other side.
Bridges are built to connect… to provide a way for people to come together. However, it’s not enough to just have a bridge. You have to make the effort to walk across and, at the very least, meet in the middle.
Is there a bridge in front of you that you need to cross?
This is a WOW! Thank you David. ~ ( :
Thanks Tina. Shortest post ever for me. I guess nothing else needed to be said 🙂
Build a bridge… and get over it!
Some people look at this simply as this:
Walls are defense mechanisms and protection.
Bridges are pathways to get to the other side.
Some people look at it this way:
Walls are about self-preservation.
Bridges are about opportunity to seek new territory.
Some people see:
Walls as a challenge to climb over or in the case of Germany, to break down.
Bridges as something that shouldn’t be crossed only half-way.
Bottom-line it’s about perspective.
There is no right or wrong in how one views walls or bridges, because everyone looks at it from their own life experience perspective.
In other words – you can look at both walls and bridges as things which are simply construction; or as something to use as analogies to compare it to life destruction.
But no matter how we view walls or bridges – I think it’s kind of nice when everyone shares what the two mean to them. 🙂
When reading this, I immediately thought of one of my favorite songs by the old band, “The Scorpions.” “Winds of change” is the song. If you do not know this song, by all means, Google it. When I finally watched the video at the age of 25 and learned about it’s representation of the Berlin Wall coming down, it hit me in that exact moment. I realized then that it was not only walls I had built around myself, but more of a fortress! To this day, I still think of this as a way that I lead my life. Right or wrong, it is what it is. I have my fortress complete with folks that I love, and never want them to escape my castles and all it’s richness. And then I have those that I never want to cross the moat to come to my territory or inside of my kingdom. I’ve always loved to dabble into the thoughts of building walls vs. bridges, and what they mean to others as well. Thank you for providing some insight to what these analogies mean to you. And for allowing me to up the ante with my analogy and thought process. Have you got a blog for fortresses, Mr. Goad?!??! ! LOL!
