Nothing makes me prouder than to see inspiration passed on to the next generation. The letter below was written by my son Evan. He was inspired by my marathon fundraising run last year, and is now inspiring his fellow students to join the fight against cancer. (I hope the dance group posts a video on youtube. They’re really good!)
I got him started with $50. If you can donate any amount, please do. If you share this link with your social network, someone else may come down with a case of inspiration as well. Thank you!
Dear Dad,
Aloha means more than just hello and goodbye to people of Hawaii, it is “the joyful sharing of life energy in the present.” We are Iaorana Te Otea, UC Santa Barbara’s premier Polynesian dance group, representing many different cultures such as Hawaiian, Maori, Tahitian, and Samoan through the art of dance. This year we are officially participating in Relay for Life for the very first time to bring the spirit of Aloha to the battle against cancer.
I love participating in relay for life every year I can, because I love the camaraderie and unity that the event promotes in addition to all the fund-raising. I have an uncle currently battling cancer and a survivor in my immediate family, so having the chance to bond with a huge amount of people that share similar experiences, to me, is super rad! I want to spread the spirit of aloha and raise as much money as I possibly can! I would appreciate it so much if you could spare a $20 or $25 donation to sponsor me and my team.

Your big run to fund raise for multiple myeloma was one of the things that inspired me to start a relay for life team this year. I know how much you have already given to the research for cancer, but I would greatly appreciate it if you could sponsor me as well! If not, I would really appreciate it if you could relay this message to other friends and family you think might be interested/not bothered with this email. I am trying to raise much more than $200 this year, and all of my sponsors will get a big email after the event happens that will include all of the activities my team does so the sponsors can feel as if they were there too! Let me know what you think.
Sincerely, Evan Goad
